Art + Environment
In 2022, artist Takeyce Walter launched Art and Environment, a youth-centered program developed in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, Adirondack Chapter, and Black Dimensions in Art. This unique initiative was created to inspire and empower young artists—particularly those from underrepresented communities—by connecting them with nature through the practice of painting en plein air.
Through immersive experiences at local preserves and natural spaces, participating youth have the opportunity to explore the Adirondack landscape with guided instruction from a professional artist. Alongside hands-on artmaking, the program introduces students to the ecological significance of these protected areas and fosters a deeper appreciation for the environment as both subject and source of inspiration.
By blending artistic development with environmental education, Art and Environment aims to cultivate not only creative skills but also a sense of stewardship and belonging in nature.
